We have messages to convey, audiences to persuade and funds to raise. But, it is the power of story that helps us understand the world around us. In this session, Adam Stofsky and Jennifer Pitts will dive into the anatomy of good storytelling and how to leverage new media for social change. We will discuss practical questions – storytelling methods; best practices for telling stories in annal appeals, fundraisers, advocacy campaigns; technology and equipment; and big picture questions – like current trends in media for social change; ethics of storytelling, and more!

 

Jennifer Pitts is the Founder of Matchstick Communications. Based in San Francisco, Matchstick is a company focused on organizational messaging, executive communications, events strategy, creative direction and storytelling. She helps her clients leverage the power of story to fuel their organizations, fundraise millions and connect their personal passion to their work via film, events and in written form. For 10 years, Jennifer served as the Managing Director of Communications, Events + Development at Tipping Point Community, where she played a central role in raising more than $120M to fight poverty in the Bay Area. Prior to Tipping Point, she spent four years at the Robin Hood Foundation in New York City. Jennifer has a BA in English from Santa Clara University, and received her Master’s in Teaching from Western Washington University.
